Stella Polaris Player: Compilation CD 1   DJ opiate

Thomas Knak (Opiate) is one of the most renowned artists on the international electronic scene, foremost as a composer and producer but also as a DJ.

DJ Opiate

His musical trademark is minimal electronica. He has produced music for bathrooms (!), ballets, dance, theatre, art and film.

Since the early 90s Thomas Knak has worked with electronic music in groups such as the trio Future 3, System, and the duo James Bong who all have released albums. In 1999 he made his debut as a solo act calling himself Opiate releasing the album Objects for an Ideal Home. This album made the international electronica scene aware of Knak’s talent. He has, among others, worked with the singer Björk on her Vespertine album and the songs Coccoon and Undo.

Along these projects Knak has worked as DJ under the alias Opiate, both in Denmark and internationally.

In 1999 he founded the record label Hobby Industries where he has released partly his own productions and partly Danish electronica artists such as Spinform, rj Valeo, Goodiepal and Manual. Furthermore, he has remixed Indopep (Japan), Bomb the Base (UK), Else Marie Pade, Under Byen, Kashmir, Björk (IS), Tied and Tickled Trio (D) and others.
